Enjoy ♥ ![]() ![]() ![]() At the same time this paper draws on the idea of connected histories, and it will attempt to present an interconnected and interwoven mosaic of the restored Society of Jesus in India without trying to reconcile regional differences and anomalies. Jesuits were working in different mission areas in India and their mission methods and apostolic choices differed according to the directives from their respective mother provinces and the specific local contexts. Similarly, this is a historiographical account not of a uniform, monolithic Society of Jesus in India but rather of the diverse and localized Jesuit missions and provinces that emerged in nineteenth- and twentieth-century India. ![]() At the outset it must be mentioned that there is no pan-Indian history of the Jesuits after 1814, but there are several regional histories of Jesuits working in different parts of India, leading to a plurality of historical discourses on Jesuits. ![]() It is meant to guide scholars who want to work on the history of the Jesuits in India after 1814, the year in which the Society of Jesus was restored. To write an overview of the historiography of the restored Society of Jesus in India initially appeared a herculean task, not least because of the paucity of historical sources. ![]() ![]() As the world endured its final, agonising demise, the mortal races of the Old World fought to the very last against the encroaching darkness which sought to consume them all. The comet's coming signalled the coronation of the thirteenth and final Everchosen of Chaos Undivided: Archaon - called the "Three-Eyed King," the "Lord of the End Times," and the "Herald of the Apocalypse" - and his bid to bring destruction upon the Human realms of the Old World. It really sets a tone that draws the reader in. “Pretty Maggie Moneyeyes” is a story you don’t forget one you’ve read it and is the sort of story that really defines Ellison – both as a writer and as an individual (or at least the individual he presents publicly). And “Lonely Ache” is a title I remember, but I had forgotten the story. ![]() “World of the Myth” is one I’d forgotten about, but enjoyed it – probably more now than I did originally as I’ve come to enjoy dark fantasy/horror more since then. “Eyes of Dust” is one of those stories that has stayed with me a very long time and yet it’s rarely discussed or reprinted (and Ellison reprints EVERYthing). The title story, about a crazed computer torturing the last five humans on earth is just as powerful now as it was forty years ago. But I recently decided to go back and see read this ‘first’ collection again to see how it stood the test of time. Since that time I think I’ve read every collection the irascible writer has published. ![]() ![]() Shortly after reading the book I attended my first convention, met Mr. I first read this book in 1976 and became an immediate fan of Harlan Ellison’s work. ![]() ![]() 'Don't mince words' is the title of one of these pieces. Issues from Vietnam to Iraq, Afghanistan to Iran and literary musings on the leading writers of the last fifty years form the richest tapestry a reader could ask. World figures from Clinton to Mother Teresa, Kissinger to Benazir Bhutto go under his unforgiving microscope. From early articles in the New Statesman where he worked alongside writers such as Ian McEwan and Martin Amis, through to his pieces for Salon, The Atlantic and Vanity Fair, these articles display his rare genius, indomitable wit and singular command of language. This volume of essays spans a remarkable four decades of writing. Christopher Hitchens is possibly the most provocative writer of our time, fearless and forthright with no subject off limits.
